Final Major Project.....Statement of intent

The title of my final major project is “I wish I could”. I am looking to produce a series of final photographed images of small individual index cards with peoples wishes written on them, that I will then use as influences in the illustrations on the cards. These pieces will be developed by experimenting with other Medias such as post it notes, chalkboards and experimenting with any Medias I see. I also want to experiment with locations and areas that I will place the cards in and the option to make it a live project even within the final show to have an area free with cards so everybody can add to the wish list. It is a really different and exciting project for me as I have never worked on live project before that involves other people and am really interested into experimenting with it further.
My major influence is Candy Chang I was researching for my previous project into typographers and came across her work. I was completely amazed by all of her work. It was really inspiring how she had got the whole community involved within her work. I loved the idea of creating a piece that was live and could involve everyone in my work. When looking into her work it very much reminded me of Yoko Ono’s wishing tree which is very influential within my idea for my project. I am going to research into some really interesting locations to place my cards and photograph, I am looking into trees, walls, fences, windows and any interesting spaces that would make a controversial photographed piece. www.candychang.com is an amazing inspiring site of all of chang’s major work, it is very unique and I hope to create something along these lines.
For my initial starting point I am aiming to use post it notes as I feel they have a really different nice unique feel to them they look instant, quick, and a first thoughtful wish that I can develop with. However I wish to develop onto index cards with the potential to use lino print for the “I wish I could” to be printed exactly the same on each card. This will give it a more professional and even look, making each wish as valid as the next. I love working with mixed media and making small illustrative collages which I am aiming to put on each card to represent the wish made. I have divided my work plan into seven weeks. Week one is devoted to research in all aspects of the project, week two I develop my post it notes, week three I will then create all my final index cards printing them, week four I will illustrate each card, week five will be my location shoot, with week six producing, editing and finalising my images and week seven evaluating my project.
To evaluate this project I plan on making daily entries into my moleskin about how I am developing and how the project is evolving as I am aware it may not stick straight to this original statement. I am going to take photographs of my development throughout the project to keep a track of it. I personally love to use spider diagrams as I find them a really good way of getting all my thoughts down as one thought leads to another. I plan to make spider diagrams throughout the journey of my project in my moleskin and sketchbook, these are always great to refer back to further on. From my last project I found my blog a great way of keeping on track and recording my process so I will definitely be updating and using it as an online diary of my project. All of this should help when writing my final evaluation as I can refer back to all these references.
